Write like gentleman and ladies of the road - in the spirit of John Gay's Beggars Opera, or in academic style, or in a conversational style. Write from behind a mask as Publius and Citizen in the days preceding the (first ever) American Revolution. Or write in the face and voice you use for commercial purposes. Write like Rabelais in the spirit of "theater without footlights" (Bakhtin), or create a frame, meme, and factoid and pound it home through endless, mindless repetition. Write from principle or triangulate, moderate, and mollify. Write poetry or prophecy. Write epigrams or soundbites. Pose riddles, or use parables. Write a fable. Or write like an Austrian Economist. Tell jokes. Issue a Bull, Screed or Offical Apology. Quote sacred texts. Toss candy and nuts to the crowd.
Here the frame of the discourse is always in question, as in art. You are welcome to write in whatever style best advances your vision of the world we (allegedly) want. Write as King or Queen. Write like a Courtier, Counselor, Astrologer, Knave, Scop, or Fool. At the same time, write with underlying respect for others, meaning expect to get as good as you give, if only from the "moderator" who is notorious for hard shots to the offending head. I reserve the right to delete comments that are truly and unmistakably mean-spirited or rancorous without being funny. Democracy is what - a serious business, running at a profit? A carnival? A puppet show? A reawakening of our deepest convictions? Let's see what views and styles prevail, or hold their own, in open and public contest. The World We Want, presumably, is a reflection of ourselves and our coterie? Or an endless contest of competing visions? Put yours out there, and let's see.
